Going to the Faire II

(( Warning: Still NSFW. heart ))

The moon had risen fully by the time they finally made their way back to the fair. The band was playing one last song, and a few of the games were still running. They strolled up the midway with their arms around each other, occasionally straightening an errant article of the other’s clothing or brushing away a bit of dirt and leaves.

“Reckon I’m heading back to the Vindicaar,” mused Zan. “Shame I don’t have a place we can go back to, that would be pretty handy. Have to start looking for likely places, aye?”

“Yeah!” Marjolaine agreed, idly picking at a tangled knot of hair that had mysteriously formed near the nape of her neck. “If you don’t see any places you like, we could build something too. I don’t know a lot about carpentry, but surely I can learn. Perks of not sleeping.”

“And it doesn’t really need to be near a city.” Zan paused to put his arms around her, finger-combing her hair to help her with the tangles. “What with hearthstones and portals and all, a person could live pretty much anywhere and still get around. At least, a person who can afford hearthstones and portals and such.” He finished straightening her hair and gave her a lingering kiss. “Might make it easier to find a place both Alliance and Horde friends can get to.”

“Thanks,” she murmured against his lips before prolonging the kiss, at last nodding slowly in agreement. “Mmmhmm. So long as you have food and plumbing sorted out, you should be golden … so it all comes down to what you want. Seems to be a running theme!”

She grinned playfully at him, nuzzling his cheek.

He stroked her hair with absent affection. “Not to mention what I can afford. Another reason to avoid the big cities.” He kissed her again, still wanting as much contact with her as she would tolerate. “At least now I’ve got a buzzbox with me, so you can find me whenever you want.”

“Oh, speaking of…” she kissed him back several times before finally leaning back, “you were going to show me the new one!”

“Oh, aye, I forgot all about it.” He retrieved the palm-size device he had used to call Nikana earlier. “How do you like that? I didn’t know it was possible to make them this small. Nik’s is even smaller.” He handed it over for her inspection.

Handling the device carefully, as if it might break at the slightest jostle, Marjolaine ooo-ed and ahh-ed over the contraption, examining each button. “This is incredible! It must be super difficult to assemble all these little pieces. And hers is even smaller? That requires some insane precision, I bet!”

“Aye, half the size, twice the price. Amazing what can be done with these gadgets.” He grinned as he watched her examine the thing, glad he’d found something to prolong their evening a little longer.

After she’d admired every nook and cranny on the device she offered it back to him, leaning in to kiss his chin. “Technology is incredible! When it’s not blowing up in your face. ...not that I think your buzzbox will, just, you know. Goblins.” She gestured vaguely out at the carnies milling about in their periphery.

He tucked the buzzbox back into its pocket. “Hopefully there’s nothing explosive involved in these gizmos, but it’s not like I’d know.” He looked around at the few games and attractions that were still open, some of them now shutting down, and sighed a bit. He’d put it off as long as he could, but they had to go their separate ways. “So long, darlin. We’ll definitely have to do this again soon.”

Marjolaine frowned, taking notice at last of the attendants breaking down a few displays and stands closing up. “Aww … okay, very soon. Promise.” She leaned up to kiss across his jaw again, a playful grin flitting across her lips, “Unleeeeess … you want to spend the night at Goldshire. I’ve heard it’s got a nasty reputation, but I could cover the cost. I don’t know when you’re expected back.”

A grin replaced his wistful look. “Honestly, I’m not expected anywhere. I’m working for Redshield now, he just calls us up when he wants us. The other guys have homes to go to when we’re not working.” He put his arms loosely around her waist, letting his hands rest casually on her rear. “You don’t think the town guards would give you trouble? I’d hate to get arrested for mowing down a bunch of cops.”

The zombie grinned, looking him over with a playfully shocked expression. “Wow, the whole bad boy thing is really doing it for me! I think we’ll be okay. From what I’ve heard, there aren’t a whole lot of patrols around the place - like I said, kind of shady. But if there are, you could just say I’m feeling under the weather! Really under the weather.”

She faked a cough, rolling her eyes back in her head with her tongue sticking out of the side of her mouth.

He reclaimed her waist, grinning again. “I’m game if you are. Lead on, darlin.”

“Yesss!” she all but cheered, squeezing his neck before sliding from his grasp to instead take his hand, hurriedly leading him back up the twisting path to the portal.

Zan followed willingly back through the portal, looking around for the road back to Goldshire. At this hour there shouldn’t be any traffic, besides a few other fairgoers heading home. “What’s the plan, then? I’ve never been to Goldshire, except passing through on the way to May’s.”

“Okay, let’s see … I’ll give you a few gold, you’ll ask for a room after we sneak through the streets and duck on in, and then we’ll go upstairs and see where the night takes us!” Marjolaine grinned, reaching into a satchel on her waist to produce the coins, slipping them into Zan’s palm.

“You got it.” Zan linked his fingers with hers and they scurried along the empty streets to the inn. They had to wake the innkeeper, but his grumbling seemed mostly for form’s sake as they passed the coins to him. Zan kept himself in front of Marj as much as possible. The half-asleep proprietor barely noticed a second person, much less that she was dead. They obtained a key and tiptoed up the stairs so as not to disturb other patrons.

“Mission accomplished,” reported Zan with a grin as they closed the door behind them.

“You’re secret agent material too! Is there anything the illustrious Zantoris can’t accomplish?” Marjolaine sighed dramatically, launching herself into his arms to shower him with kisses before he had much chance to respond to such outrageous allegations.

He wrapped his arms around her waist and lifted her in the air. “With Marjolaine at my side, I can do anything.” He returned her kisses enthusiastically.

“Awww, babe…” she giggled, trying the word out. She decided that she liked it and celebrated their victory with deepening kisses as her hands roamed down onto the shadowmancer’s chest.

Zan caressed her face as they kissed, then wrapped his arms around her again to keep her close. “Hey… you ever been to Hillsbrad?”

“I’ve flown over it … is that where you want to put roots?” she asked, smiling curiously.

He shrugged, running his hands up and down her back. “It’s the area I was born in, might be interesting to at least see what it looks like. I barely remember it.”

“You should take a trip back there, see if any childhood memories come flooding back,” she said with a grin, kissing his brow. “I’d love to come too, if you’ll have me.”

“I’ll have you as long as you can put up with me, darlin.” He nuzzled her neck and kissed behind her ear. “Tricky part will be getting there, but I’m sure we can figure something out.”

Marjolaine shivered with pleasure, both from his words and the touch of his lips. “We can do anything together, right?”

“Damn right.” Zan squeezed her tightly. “How bout you, any old haunts you want to look in on? I hate to just drag you along on all my nostalgia tours.”

“You’re not dragging me anywhere!” she protested, shaking her head. “I love going places with you … and we’re definitely not going to Silithus. Eugh, sand everywhere, giant bugs, creepy whispers. Nope.” She shook her head before kissing him thoughtfully. “I still think a boat tour would be nice. A short cruise - or even a longer one - once all the demons have been slaughtered off.”

“Whatever you want, love. We’ll have to kill ‘em off faster so we can get to that.” He kept his arms comfortably around her as he speculated. “I’ll see if Nikana’s got any warlock friends in the Hillsbrad area at the moment. That would probably be the easiest way to get there.”

“Ooh, romantic, illicit summonings under the cover of darkness,” she teased, waggling her brows at him. “It’s a date!”

Zan chuckled, nuzzling her neck again. “Probably be a pretty boring trip for you. Not a lot of cities up there, just some wide places in the road you can barely call towns.”

“I’ll have a great time because we’ll be together,” she murmured, leaning her head back to encourage his attention to her neck. “Besides, we could rough it. Live off the land! Catch some fish for our dinner. It’ll be rustic.”

“Aye, that it will.” He worked his hands up under her tunic, caressing as he kissed her neck and jaw. “Definitely something we could manage, it would probably be more comfortable than living off the land in Icecrown.”

“Well, yeah. Anything would be better than frozen twigs and half-starved deer,” she mused absently, though her thoughts were steadily straying away from the frozen North as she began to part the fabric covering the shadowmancer’s chest.

“Mmm.” Zan was also losing interest in the discussion, becoming more focussed on what was under her clothing. He pulled her vest and tunic off over her head, smiling at the sight of her shirtless, and moved to kiss her newly-exposed chest.

Marjolaine groaned openly since there was no longer any need for secrecy, their talk falling to the wayside as she focused on undressing him and drenching him with kisses while his garments fell away. He had the vibrancy of the living, she thought, but the stamina of undeath - a pair of traits that any lover could appreciate.

The shadowcaster finished undressing her as well, running his hands lovingly over her curves as he removed the last articles of clothing. He scooped her up and carried her to the bed, depositing her with a kiss and settling beside her. His troll charm jingled faintly, free of the muffling clothing that normally concealed it. The pale scar on his abdomen showed faintly against the tan of his skin. He ran his fingers along her hips, kissing and caressing, taking his time now.

The risen creature’s voice lifted in warm approval, her fingers winding through his hair to free it from his usual braids, as had become their private ritual. All unbound, free and exposed, their worries left in an untidy pile at the foot of the bed. Her fingertips lingered over the scar, soothing it, before trailing across the rest of his toned body in open reverence.

Her lover caressed her in turn, leisurely touching and kissing her cool skin, worshiping every inch of her. She was so responsive, her pleasure gave him pleasure, amplifying each other’s enjoyment in a slowly building wave. He lost all sense of time, consumed by the moment as their passion crested again, until finally they lay together, spent and blissful. He held her in his arms as his heartbeat returned to normal. She didn’t seem to mind that he was sweaty. Her cool, firm curves felt good against his overheated skin.

Zan kissed her forehead. “I love you, Marj.”

She reflexively laughed, as if his words were some sort of jest, before looking into his eyes, her amusement replaced with disbelief. “You do? Really?” The unspoken Even though I’m dead? hung in the air and the redhead bit her lower lip, nuzzling affectionately into his chest. “I love you, Zan. If anything happened to you, I … I think I’d really become a monster.”

“Oh, aye.” He held her against his chest, wondering if she could feel the pounding of his heartbeat. “Probably should have said it sooner, but… honestly it kind of terrifies me.” He kissed the top of her head again. “If something happened to you, I reckon I’d become a monster too. So we’d best not let anything happen, aye?”

The ghoul’s fingertips played on his chest directly over his heart as she indeed felt the rapid rhythm, breaking away only to kiss him deeply. “I promise not to let anything happen. Try not to worry, okay?”

“Easier said than done.” Zan caressed her absently, smiling. “I’ll have to find someone to make a protection charm for you.” The late hour and recent exertions were catching up to him; he felt comfortably lethargic, reluctant to move.

The redhead laughed again, shaking her head. “You know, most people carry some kind of Light-blessed charm, not a Light-warding one…”

Seeing the former priest’s eyes lidding, she coaxed him closer to sleep by slowly stroking her fingers through his unbound umber tresses.

“Don’t care bout most people, just you,” Zan mumbled. Her touch was soothing, he drifted off to sleep even as he spoke the words. His breathing settled into a gentle rhythm as the hand that had been caressing her relaxed and was still.

Marjolaine beamed, imagining that a warm rush would be flooding her face if she were alive, and pressed her ear against his chest to listen to his steady breathing and heartbeat as he slept. When the night terrors came, she’d be there to reassure him, even if only for a time.
